I was a Girl Scout for a very hot minute when I was a young girl. Forgive me, but I wasn’t really ever the type of girl who did well when asked to sit in a circle and chat. I was a tomboy to the core. Tagging along behind my cousins heels was my idea of a great summer day. So Girl Scouts just never really appealed to me, until they mentioned the badges. You know… those little circles that you got to sew onto your sash and show off like threaded trophies at each and every meeting. Well, my mom would sew them on for me… sewing was never a badge that I earned. Anyway… I’m not sure what it was about the badges that got me so excited, but the idea of going out and accomplishing something definitely got me interested in Girl Scouts again. Oh, and the cookies. But that’s a whole different story.
As an adult, our badges aren’t as tangible. Nobody came into the hospital room and handed me a badge after the births of my sons. I also didn’t receive a badge when I married my husband… bought our first home… or finished the laundry. But let’s face it, the laundry is actually never finished… so I give life a pass on not giving me a badge for that one. But you get my point. If Fraser would start giving me a little badge every time that I had dinner cooked when he got home from work then maybe he would find a few more hot meals in his tummy each week. Life needs more badges.
This morning I opened up my e-mail to just that. A badge.
